2011 David Thompson Brigade
The 2011 David Thompson Brigade
The Rossland Historical Museum presents a double feature at the Miners’ Hall on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Cost: $10.00 at the door
Doors open at 6:30 and the program will begin at 7:00.
The first presentation is Tracing the Columbia, a spectacular documentary filmed during the 2011 David Thompson Brigade, retracing the explorer’s route to the Pacific Ocean. The brigade began on June 1 in Invermere BC, close to the headwaters of the Columbia River and continued on the flood driven waters of the Kootenay, the Clark Fork and the Pend d’Oreille rivers, finally rejoining the Columbia again at Kettle Falls, Washington.
During the journey, brigade members camped at 38 communities, paddled 1600 kilometres and portaged around 13 dams to reach their final destination, Astoria, Oregon – 200 years to the day from David Thompson’s arrival there.
After a break for refreshments, we will present a second film, Shadows of David Thompson for those who would like a fascinating review of the life of this amazing Canadian.
